The Happy Happy Birthday Song: "You didn't die this year, so I guess that's good enough."

At 2:16AM, on March 4th in the undisclosed year of the zodiac at an undisclosed state in the United States, I was born at a local undisclosed hospital under a name mainly used by family members and telephone solicitors. I would soon start a life that would include child modeling, getting recruited for a commercial or three, getting addicted to a certain carbonated beverage that employed a certain King Of Pop for its commercial that I was in, an official but illegal name change, and even a bit of school. But these anecdotes will be skipped to facilitate the story.

Last year in 2004 Anime Overdose took place on the weekend of my birthday. This year in 2005 Anime Overdose took place on the weekend of my birthday. This coincidence lead to another fun birthday party. I hate planning parties, especially my own. Luckily, throwing a party at a convention makes things a whole lot easier. AOD already provided a large venue with plenty of events and entertainment for a party. And I didn't have to send invitations because many cosplaying friends of mine attended the convention. Just add cake and candles and instant party.

Anime Overdose weekend festivities began on March 3rd. I met Victoria at the Fremont BART station on a sunny Thursday morning. We stopped at Fry's to pick up some quirky game I've heard about in some places: Katamari Damacy for the PS2. This purchase would later become an obstacle to attending Anime Overdose.

We rushed home to play the game but realized a flaw in my purchase: I didn't have a PS2. I left it at Victoria's dorm. We killed time watching a couple episodes of Fruits Basket. It was a shame that Hitori was unable to attend AOD this year. But we were able to spend time with her during dinner at Applebee's.

The first day of AOD took place on the actual day of my birthday. It was full of fandom towards Psycho Le Cemu. Needing a break from the anime, Claudine joined me and Victoria for dinner. Mel's was a quiet retreat from the convention hustle and bustle and allowed us to relax, recover our hearing, and chat a bit. The free chocolate cake was a nice touch from the waitress. We returned to the con and found Xel-ko passing out freshly made snicker doodles.

AOD Saturday:

Victoria and I felt this was a good day to pass out cake to hungry friends and attendees. After satiating my morning Katamari Damacy craving, we raided the nearby Albertson's for two cakes (white and chocolate), napkins, and a serving knife.

We found a table just outside the Artist Alley and placed our cakes there. People flocked around for a slice of free cake. I wanted to blow out the candles before serving, but realized I didn't bring a candle. Luckily, a PLC Magical Pen was a good substitute. Then we bit the hand of the person that held the candle because her PLC costume was the Aya costume that resembled a cake.

Blowing out the magical candle.

PLC oddities.
Good enough to eat.
So we shall.

A small crowd of people formed. Serving the cake was sloppy but quick. A round of that Happy Birthday song was sung. There were many people I never met before. And out of that crowd, I spotted Kenny and proceeded with the obliged lukewarm yaoi action.

The last slice went to the FUNimation booth. They were nice to give me a gift of a dollar earlier so it was a fun exchange. We heard a bit of the Ramen and Rice concert and even heard them play Victoria's "Happy Birthday Song" request for me. After the concert Kenny took us out for dinner. But we're going back to the main AOD Saturday report here and point you back to the report.
